India seen among corrupt by those in business
China News.Net Wednesday 14th March, 2007 (IANS)
India figures ninth among 13 countries in a list measuring corruption levels while doing business in Asia that had the Philippines at the top as the most corrupt nation, according to a survey published Wednesday.
India scored 6.67 points, and was followed only by Vietnam (7.54), Indonesia and Thailand (both at 8.03) and the Philippines (9.4 points).
Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan and Macau were considered the least corrupt countries, in a survey carried out by the Hong Kong-based Political and Economic Risk Consultancy.
Taiwan came fifth with 6.23 points and was followed by Malaysia (6.25), China (6.29) and South Korea (6.3). In the survey scale of 0 to 10, Singapore scored a high 1.2.
The poll was compiled through interviews with nearly 1,500 businessmen in 126 countries and territories on their perceptions of corruption in Asian countries. Interviews were conducted in January and February.
At the same time, Japan was considered the least stressful country to do business, followed by Malaysia and the Philippines in the second spot with 4.50 points.
Despite escalating Islamic insurgency, Thailand came third with 4.73 points, followed by Singapore (5.00), Hong Kong (5.30), Taiwan (6.00), China and India (6.25), Vietnam (6.50), South Korea (6.67) and Indonesia (7.33).
'Money does not buy peace of mind. With the exception of Japan, Asia's wealthiest economies were ranked in the middle of the pact,' said the Hong Kong based consultancy.

Harsh punishment
Each corrupt countries must apply a harsh punishment to those who commits them. Just like China. Its system is getting better due to its swift action to condemn those culprits who are corrupt.

adequate?
In my opinion, this survey does not convey anything useful.
First, as some has already pointed out, that not all asian countries were part of the survey. It did not consider the alternatives. So this survey cannot proclaim the Philippines as the most corrupted country in Asia.
Another point that I want to bring to light, on what sources is this survey based on? It was based on some businessmen’s opinions. Is it only based on one aspect of the economy of the country? Or simply on its crime rate? It is not clear on what aspect did this survey conclude that whether or not one country is corrupted.
Lastly, this survey is one cruel survey. It is comparing less economically developed countries to more economically developed coutries. They should have a separate survey and a report in comparison from the previous year.
All in all, this survey cannot prove that one country is corrupted or not and it is inefficient to rely on this survey. It is because it based on the opinion on one status not a diverse group of people.
This survey is for businessmen to consider, but not for people to judge whether a country is corrupted or not.

paid survey
The businessmen who participated in the survey must be oppositionists of the Gloria administration. They bring the Philippines down by turning the country into a circus. They can not allow the country to live inpeace. They will not SHUT UP until ALL OF THEM ARE PRESIDENTS OF THE PHILIPPINES. Maybe, we should divide the country into a 1,000 island, and one president for earch islands. That is the problem here in the Philippines. Everybody wants to be the PRESIDENT. They think that the Philippines will be a corrupt free coutry if they are the president!

The Philippines must have a 1,000 president to be happy
The Philippines is not a corrupt country. what it has is a corrupted minds of politicians. The Philippines must be divided into 1,000 islands and one president for each island. That way, these corrupted minded politicans will stop their noise, their irritating blue ribbon hearings, their so called disgusting accusations from each other. THE FILIPINOS ARE TIRED OF THESE BULLSHIT GARCI INVETSIGATION. You just want to become the next president. Heaven forbid, even if Gloria is replaced, you politicans will not keep quiet. The next election, we will just elect for 1,000 presidents in the Philippines, that way, you become ALL PRESIDENTS and maybe we can progress quietly without your bullshit noise.

Every country is corrupt
If countries like Indonesia is corrupt, at most, we’re talking about 6 or 7 figures. In other countries, like the USA, we’re talking at least 8 figures or more. Frequency or volume, it’s still corruption and it will almost always exist. Our problem is frequency but with little small value. Their problem is value (like the Enron scandal which left hundreds w/ lost savings and no pay).
We’re less developed, I know but keep in mind that we just got our independence after the WW2, and we have a fairly large population. The Dutch didn’t help much either. Sure they built railroads for us, just to transport their monopoly of resources, leaving the modern era of Indonesians to clean up the devastated city of seasonal and post-colonial problems.
Indonesia needs help (first and foremost: money) and one of the things we can do is to strengthen government policies, reduce red-tape, and make the system and infrastructure more appealing for foreign investments. Forget worrying about curtailing corruption, get the system worked out, reduced corruption will be an effect after we get these issues on the court up and running.

where are the other Asian countries
Is this an anti-Philippines survey? Must admit corruption is rampant in the Philippines, but where are Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Cambodia, Burma, etc... It’s interesting to see the complete list.

PHILIPPINES IS NOT A CORRUPT COUNTRY
The Philippines is not a corrupt country. It is a victim of “mismanagement.". Maybe if we apply the procedures laid down by the “SARBANES-OXLEY” ACT, then, the factors giving rise to the image of corruption will dissipate. Managing a “corporate entity' is not much of a difference than that managing a political entity.

Corrupt Indians? The worst are those...
....that use their family connections and the incumbents in their “new found land” to their own means. I have worked with Indian people before, and some are fine - some say they assimilate into Australia. Some, however, have their own agendas and still work by some sort of weird caste system, with total and utter disrespect for women in their new found land.
Big tip to those from India that think you can run your own little agendas outside - eventually, you get found out, and you will get sacked (let go, fired, terminated employment).
If you want to play your home country tricks, then play them in your home country. Don’t try and take them into other nations because you will be caught out.
I don’t go to India and play Australian politics.
